Jamie Lafleur
Jamie LaFleur is a Rock Cree woman from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. Her mother is Cree from Weyakwin, Saskatchewan, and her father is Métis from Beauval, Saskatchewan. She graduated in 2019 with an Honours in Anthropology at the University of Saskatchewan and finishing her MSc in Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine. Her thesis explores associations between Indigenous historical experiences in tuberculosis sanatoria and current COVID-19 vaccination decision-making in Indigenous communities. During her Honours, Jamie attended study abroad programs in Norway, Thailand, Ukraine, and South Africa, focussing on Indigenous global health. She has received multiple awards, including the Indigenous Achievement Award for Health Sciences Research, the Gail Appel Global Citizen Award, the High North Fellowship at the Arctic University of Norway, and the SK-NEIHR scholarship. Jamie has been a research assistant for Dr. Heather Foulds since 2019 for multiple Métis health projects and is also a sessional lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan College of Kinesiology.
